Letter to the Editor: Questioning REACT leadership - HDR | Hickory Daily Record : Opinion
I am posting this letter in hopes people will read it and especially Burke County Taxpayers. We are paying HIGH taxes and at least $ 42,000 dollars each year is given to Burke County REACT with NO strings attached. The Chief in turn is paid a salary of $ 500 dollars every two weeks, and allocates more than $ 11,000 dollars of the $ 42,000 dollars received to fuel expense to use in vehicles one of which is used exclusively by the Chief as his "Regular vehicle"
I was a "Volunteer" with this organization for five years until January 2014, when I brought this information to the Board of Directors, I was swiftly voted to be removed as Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, followed by a vote to "Dismiss" me from this organization. I still pay taxes myself as a Burke County Taxpayer, and I want other taxpayers to know about this situation. The Chief of Burke County REACT - IS a Volunteer, but IS paid and allowed to receive gasoline and $ 152.00 each month in Health Insurance Benefits as a "Volunteer"
